the impact of “naphtha-flation”, have begun to be seen for items such as detergent and plastic bags, their contribution to the CPI remains small at this point. In addition, price hikes, likely reflecting soaring memory prices for items such as laptop computers and memory cards, also acted as a positive, albeit small, contributing factor.
Private-sector services (excluding rent), which the Bank of Japan regularly refers to, decelerated to +0.8% mom annualized (our estimate), from +3.1% in June. The yoy rate remained flat from +2.9% in June. With the April-May price revision period over, no notable price fluctuations were seen in private-sector services prices. While price increases that likely reflect higher airfares have continued for items such as overseas package tours, this was partly offset by a deceleration in hotel and other accommodation charges.
