Market Recap at 4 PM ET Wall Street closed higher as investors turned their focus to next week's corporate earnings reports and inflation figures. Benchmark Treasuries declined, giving back some of their earlier gains. Gold advanced for a second straight session, supported by bargain hunting after recent weakness, while the dollar strengthened. Oil prices edged higher on supply concerns stemming from Gulf of Mexico hurricane disruptions and Middle East tensions.

COMING UP ON MONDAY Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack is set to speak on the economic outlook and monetary policy at the National Association for Business Economics' 2026 Annual Meeting.

COMING UP - WEEK AHEAD A busy week of US corporate earnings is on tap, with several of the country's largest banks, asset managers and healthcare companies scheduled to report third-quarter results.

Among the banks, JPMorgan Chase is expected to report higher third-quarter profit, with attention likely to focus on trends in dealmaking and trading activity, as well as management's assessment of the US economy. Goldman Sachs is also expected to post higher third-quarter profit, supported by stronger investment banking fees amid a recovery in mergers and acquisitions activity and higher equities trading revenue, while investors will also be looking out for any comments on the bank's CEO succession plans. Wells Fargo is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit and revenue on Tuesday, helped by strong net interest income. Investors will look for commentary on consumer spending health and the impact of interest rate hikes. Meanwhile, Citigroup People exit the JPMorgan Chase & Co., headquarters in New York City, April 1. is expected to report strong third-quarter REUTERS/Eduardo Munoz profit on Tuesday, helped by growth in investment banking and trading income.

US inflation data will headline next week's economic calendar, with the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) scheduled to release the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for September on Wednesday. Headline CPI is expected to rise 0.6% month on month, matching the August increase, while annual inflation is seen accelerating to 3.7% from 3.4%. Excluding food and energy, core CPI is forecast to increase 0.2% on the month, with the annual core rate expected at 2.5%. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve is due to publish its Beige Book.

Attention will then shift to a heavy slate of U.S. economic data due on Thursday. The Commerce Department's Census Bureau is expected to report that retail sales rose 0.3% in September, slowing from a 1.2% increase in August, while retail sales excluding autos are seen increasing 0.6% after a 1.4% gain. The BLS is also due to release the Producer Price Index (PPI), which is forecast to rise 0.5% month on month in September, up from 0.4% previously, while the annual rate is seen easing to 5.3% from 5.4%. Core PPI, excluding food and energy, is expected to increase 0.3% on the month and 4.4% from a year earlier. The Labor Department will also release weekly jobless claims on the same day, which are expected to edge up to 200,000 in the week ended October 10 from 197,000 previously.

Wednesday's earnings calendar will feature BlackRock, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley. BlackRock is expected to report a jump in third-quarter profit and revenue, boosted by strong performance across most of its divisions. Investors will watch for…
